London Locksmith blog 08/04/08 | Print |
Lots of varied calls over the weekend, it seems everyone needed a locksmith. Lots of driving all over place from dartford to hither green then belvedere then up to ilford and then back to bexleyheath.Security gates seemed the order of the day with plenty of calls for collapsible grilles. Its not surpising really as so many people are getting broken into and they know our gates stop the burglaries.
Also with the looming increases in metal prices many people want to get their security gates fitted before the price rises kick in.

Snow seemed to keep people off of the roads with less traffic than usual which made a nice change. The weather is strange to say the least, on friday the aircon is needed and then its full heaters on saturday.

Bromley seems to have lots of new starrt up locksmiths one even emailed to see if i could give him any work. Why oh why would we give work to the competition ? The only people we pass work to are other members of the institute of certified locksmiths as the customer can be assured of decent service.
It seems with so many new locksmiths many don't have a clue about business, it makes you wonder what their skills are like ? The institute of certified locksmiths is only £50 a year to join but many do not belong to any organisation.maybe its because they would have to work to a code of conduct ?

Just had a load of locks delivered made by a major manufacturer and i have to say im not impressed. The quality has dropped since they started manufacturering them in china. One wouldn't even open with the keys supplied.Luckily the problems were easily sorted but you would expect something to work straight out of the box.Plenty of these locks are being sold by major diy chains so it wont be long before the calls come in with customers saying they have the keys but the lock wont open. I won't be stocking any more of these to prevent further problems.

Sure people want cheap but at what price ? What many people fail to understand is that by calling a locksmith to fit a lock you are also tapping into that wealth of product know;ledge and experience you do not get from a diy store.

Im not sure how many people follow this blog but if anyone has any questions feel free to drop me an email and lets see where it goes.

Regards Allan the london locksmith
